Transition from Red Cross to Lifesaving Society:
All pools will be transitioning to new programs in 2023 as Red Cross is ceasing operations with its swim program effective December 31, 2022. In 2023, Splashy's will be adopting the Lifesaving Society levels and program.
Below is a definition of how we will organize these classes with the equivalences:
Definition of terms:
Parent/tot: ages 6 months to 3 years (Red Cross levels starfish, duck, sea turtle or Lifesaving Society levels Parent/tot level 1, 2 and 3). Parents come in the water to assist in learning floats, kicking, and basics of doggy paddle.
Little fishies: ages 4 to 6 years (Red Cross pre-school levels sea otter, salamander, sunfish or Lifesaving Society preschool levels 1, 2 and 3). Class is unparented and for students who are swimming under 5m or not at all.
Students who are 3 years of age can be accepted on a case by case basis into an unparented little fishies class if they have had a lot of water exposure (e.g. from previous parent/tot classes) and if they are very independent.
Brave fishies: ages 4 to 6 (Red Cross pre-school levels crocodile, whale or Lifesaving Society preschool levels 5 and 6). Class is unparented and for students who can swim 5m or more on their backs and on front doing doggy paddle (head above water). Students will learn/transition to front crawl in this class.
Children who are 7 years of age and over can register into Red Cross levels 1-10 and Lifesaving Society levels 1-6.
Equivalencies:
Red Cross level 1 = Lifesaving level 1
Red Cross level 2 and 3 = Lifesaving level 2
Red Cross level 4 = Lifesaving level 3
Red Cross level 5/6 = Lifesaving level 4
Red Cross level 7 = Lifesaving level 5
Red Cross level 8-10 = Lifesaving level 6
